Resources & Tools

  • NYC DOT Open Storefront Accessibility Guidance

Open Storefront Accessibility Guidance provided by the New York City Department of Transportation. Businesses engaged in retail trade, food service, repair stores, personal care services, and dry-cleaning and laundry services are able to use outdoor space for seating, queuing, or display and sale of goods.

  • Business Accessibility NYC

Each level of government has different rules—and all apply to you. If NYC Dept. of Buildings rejects your architectural plans over accessibility, you can ask NYC Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) for a waiver that exempts you from the NYC Building Code. But there is no waiver process for city, state, or federal accessibility civil rights laws such as the NYC Human Rights Law, the New York State Human Rights Law, or the ADA.

  • NYS Department of Financial Services - Accessibility

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and as stated in our Reasonable Accommodation Policy (PDF) the Department of Financial Services will not discriminate against individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, activities or benefits.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of DFS, should contact NYS ADA coordinated.

  • Village Preservation

Village Preservation advocates for landmark and zoning protections and monitors proposed and planned developments and alterations to landmarked and historic sites throughout our neighborhoods.
